Elevate Your Event: The Add-Ons Our Toronto DJs Recommend Most
(That is: Up-lighting, Moving Heads, Karaoke & More)
When you’ve locked in your DJ, the next biggest way to transform the atmosphere is with the right add-ons to your DJ Service Package. Lighting changes how the room feels in seconds, “haze” makes beams pop in photos, a mirror ball turns slow dances into movie moments, and a projector lets you share your story with the room. Below, we’ve highlighted how each option works in real-life events, plus the specific gear we use, so you can mix and match with confidence.

Uplighting 101: What it is, why it works, and where to place it
“Uplighting” is just what it sounds like, lighting pointing upward that “paints” part of a room or venue space with colour. It can completely change a room’s atmosphere!
What it does:
Uplighting uses compact LED fixtures placed around the perimeter of your room to “wash” the walls in a colour that supports your theme. Think champagne amber for dinner, then a deeper, more saturated tone when the party starts. Because LEDs are cool running and very efficient, up-lighting is venue friendly and photogenic.
Where it shines:
- Head table & backdrop: A subtle, warm wash keeps attention on the couple or the podium.
- Architectural accents: Columns, draping, and alcoves come alive with colour and depth.
- Dancefloor energy: A colour change or slow fade at open dancing signals the vibe shift.
What we use:
Our standard uplighting package includes 10 ORION 3 LED flat PAR cans, enough to outline a medium banquet space with a clean, modern look.
Package price: $350, including setup and takedown.
Pro tip:
If your venue has tall ceilings or a long room, combine uplighting with a pair of moving heads (more on those below) so you can spotlight entrances, speeches, or your first dance, then pivot to a dancefloor light show later.
Moving Heads: Spotlight elegance meets party energy
Why add them:
Moving heads are the “Swiss Army knife” of lighting: They can act like elegant spotlights during formal moments and then flip into dynamic movement for the dance set. They also project gobo patterns (textured shapes) that add visual interest without overpowering the room.
What we use:
Our pair package features two Vizi LED Spot moving heads with 7 colours (plus white & UV), 7 gobos + spot, and 10/12 channel DMX control for precise programming.
Package price: $150 for the pair, including setup and takedown.
Best for:
Wedding party entrances, first dance spot, corporate award walk ups, and transforming a simple ballroom into a “produced” experience once the music kicks up.
Laser Looks (and Why Haze Matters)
Lasers add scale. A single compact unit can throw crisp beams across a large ceiling, creating a nightclub feel after speeches are done.
Make it visible with haze. Lasers (and moving heads) look best when there’s just a touch of atmosphere so the beams show up in the air.
- American DJ Galaxian Laser: Over 500 red and green beams with a 90° spread. Add on: $50 each.
- Orion Dual Scanner ORLASER 104: Multi pattern, double tunnel red/green effect; runs DMX, audio chase, or automatic. Add on: $50 each.
- MARQ Haze 800: Compact 800 watt hazer with variable output and DMX control. Add on: $75.
Classic Sparkle: Mirror Ball
Nothing says “romantic slow dance” like a mirror ball. We supply the ball with a tripod stand and two pin spots so those signature moving dots show up beautifully around the room.
Add on: $75 including setup and teardown.
Fun & Interaction: Karaoke
(Great for Employee Parties & After Parties)
A hosted karaoke segment keeps guests engaged and creates unforgettable moments—especially for corporate events, holiday parties, and laid back wedding after parties.
What’s included:
A professional karaoke host, a dedicated karaoke system with LCD monitor, two wireless microphones with stands, a sound board with FX, and setup/teardown.
Add on: $200. Screens and projector are available on request, and you’ll have access to our online karaoke catalogue for song choices.
A/V Essentials for Slideshows & Speeches
If you’re planning a photo slideshow, sponsor reel, or same day edit, we can bundle the pieces so your content plays smoothly and on time.
- Projector package: 3200 lumen HDMI ready projector with dedicated laptop, setup/teardown, and pre event file testing. $250, or two for $400.
- 96″ tripod projection screen(s): $75, or two for $125, with skirts and full setup.
- Dedicated MacBook Pro for projector control: HDMI/serial ready, file testing, media start/stop, Dropbox access for easy file delivery.
Ceremony Sound Made Simple
For weddings that need coverage in a second location (e.g., ceremony outdoors, reception inside), we provide a dedicated setup so everything feels seamless:
- professional wedding DJ,
- 1–2 powered speakers,
- a wireless microphone,
- a sound board, and
- a laptop
- plus setup/teardown at the ceremony site and a pre ceremony phone consult.
Ceremony add on: $200.
Outdoor Comfort: 8′ × 8′ Canopy
Planning an outdoor signing table, DJ position, or small activation? Our ABC Canopy 8×8 (white) provides 64 sq. ft. of shade and includes setup/teardown. Add on: $75. (The best Toronto DJ Services)
One Click Bundles & Budget Friendly Picks
If you want a simple, all in one lighting starter:
• DJ Ivan’s Basic Light Bar: A tidy T bar with 2 ORION 3 LED flat PARs, Monsoon FX LED & Laser, and a MICROH DJ LED Trickster (2 effects in one).
Add on: $200 (available when you’ve booked with DJ Ivan).
Or build your own:
Pair uplighting for ambience with moving heads for spotlight moments, add a hazer so beams show up in photos, and consider a mirror ball for slow dance magic.
For speeches, tack on an extra wireless microphone($50 each) so you’re never passing a mic across a crowded table.
How to Choose (Quickly)
- Start with mood: Warm white/amber uplighting for dinner; shift to richer colours for the party.
- Add a focal tool: Moving heads let you highlight entrances and transitions.
- Scale with your room: Lasers + haze make big rooms feel like a club; mirror ball adds instant romance in classic spaces.
- Plan for content: If a slideshow matters, book the projector/screen early and send us files in advance—we’ll test them. (The best Toronto DJ Services)
